He is a Beautiful new boy we just imported from Japan in March 2005.
He is co owned by Koyote Kennels, Katja Weber and Elaine Macnair. He
is loved and spoiled and lives with Elaine in Washington State.
We are very excited to breed Ishi to Sachi this fall.
Sachi
I am thrilled to introduce Sachi, a female from the very rare Shikoku Inu breed.
Sachi means happy, blessing and good luck in Japanese. A beautiful
name for an extra special dog.

The Shikoku is an ancient breed originating on the Japanese
island of Shikoku. They were bred for hunting deer and wild boar.
Like the Shiba and the Akita, the Shikoku is a Japanese national
treasure. In 1937 they were registered in the official list of
natural monuments. There are only about 300 Shikokus in Japan and
virtually none elsewhere, making this dog the rarest of the Japanese
breed.
Dedicated breeders Rene and Egitte Hesselmans spent many years negotiating with the Japanese to get the
first dog out of Japan. After a visit in 1997 Rene returned home
with a male puppy named Kekki. Their kennel has since grown to 20.
The Hesselmans are very responsible breeders are interested in
preserving and promoting this breed.

Katja Webber of Akashima Kennels, a Shiba breeder who studied
Shikokus, is the first breeder in North America to meet the
Hesselmans and bring 2 puppies home to Canada. Katja, a dedicated and responsible breeder, is working hard to get
the breed recognized in North America. She now has 3 dogs from
Holland, a welcome addition to her kennel. |

Sachi is the fourth Shikoku brought into North America. Like the
translation of her name, she is a happy blessing for me. Good luck
was on my side when Steve Kamph from California could no longer keep
her as he knew she needed more space to run than he could provide
for her. I picked up Sachi from the Calgary airport on Feb 4, 2002
and was so impressed to see how beautiful she was. She fits right in
here at Koyote Kennels because she has room to run and can play with
the male Shibas.

Sachi is very friendly with us as well as with strangers. She is
very active outside but calm and quiet in the house. She has a
beautiful double red-brown sesame coat with soft fur and distinct
white markings. I love her almond eyes and soft expression on her
face.
Heartfelt thanks, Steve, for the special gift of Sachi. You were
right when you told me "she is a wonderful being". Katja, thanks for
your advice and warm friendship. You are an inspiration.
I’m looking forward to working with Katja and the Hesselmans to
promote the Shikoku and get it recognized in North America.
